‘America’s Got Talent’ casts Simon Cowell as Hannibal Lecter in new promo

The full review -

We’ve been saying for some time now that Hannibal should be brought back on NBC, but this is not exactly what we had in mind.

The clip below is the latest promo for “America’s Got Talent” premiering this summer, and it is the first video look we’ve had at Simon Cowell as a member of the judging panel. The longtime executive producer is replacing Howard Stern after he served on the show for many years, and based on the new promo we have to assume that snark is going to be the meal du jour. We just hope that it comes with a side of something interesting. The problem for Simon is this: We’ve basically seem him now judge on three other talent shows. We’re not quite sure what it is that he can say that we have not heard already.

Then again, you can make a similar argument for this show itself. We’re more than a decade into its run at this point, so what more is there to see that hasn’t quite been said before? This is the challenge for America to try to match this season. It’s going to take more creativity and innovation than we’ve seen to date, and it’s also going to take a few diamonds in the rough showing up. One of the real reasons that “Britain’s Got Talent” has been able to remain relevant is because of the presence of international acts; we haven’t seen as many of them make it to America just yet, though there have been a few exceptions.
