‘Chicago Fire’ season 4 spoilers: Exec on potential Dawson – Casey conflict ahead

Chicago Fire -Through most of “Chicago Fire” season 4 so far, we’ve had a chance to see something that is for the most part a rarity within the Dick Wolf universe: A relationship without a whole lot of drama attached to it. Casey and Dawson certainly had that going into this season, but since then we’ve had a chance to see the two more on the same page. That haven’t really defined their relationship, but that hasn’t really been a priority. Instead, they’ve just been enjoying a chance to be happy.

Could that change soon? Well, you do have to wonder about one potential conflict coming up, where Dawson gets a little too attached to a foster child following a rescue. This is something that she at first keeps from Casey, and it’s a story executive producer Matt Olmstead sets up to The Hollywood Reporter:

“[She] does the one thing they advise you against doing, which is following up on the well-being of the people that you save on a call … So she becomes a little bit concerned with the well-being of this kid who is actually in need of somebody looking after him, so she plants her flag like, ‘Why not me? I know there’s a million reasons not to but things happen for a reason.'”

There’s a lot of time this season to craft a resolution to this story, but one thing in particular you have to remember here is that Dawson was preparing to be a mother before losing her baby. Therefore, this sort of maternal instinct may be there, and it is certainly something she and Casey need to discuss.
