‘Britain’s Got Talent’ (and their stunning Kathleen Jenkins audition) stay above 10 million
There remains something about British TV ratings to us that is so stunning in this era of great fragmentation across the board. More often than not, we end up seeing prime examples of shows losing numbers, and really owning a tiny percentage of the overall audience share. That does not happen with ITV and shows like “Britain’s Got Talent.”
This most-recent episode of the show this weekend, which featured a stellar performance by Kathleen Jenkins, ended up scoring an overall audience of 10.2 million viewers. this is down slightly from the most-recent episode, but we thought that this would be an interesting comparison. The #1 talent competition in America is “The Voice,” and its most-recent episode on Monday drew 10.1 million viewers. Despite having a significantly smaller population (exponentially so, even), “Britain’s Got Talent” finds a way to bring people together from all over the UK.
We also think that Jenkins could be the sort of performer who continues to engage audiences for some time this season. While singers don’t always win this show, there’s something so powerful about a singular audition for one of them that they tend to go viral in ways that other acts do not. There’s a reason that Balance could to reference Susan Boyle, given that her audition remains to us the most powerful moment in the history of the show.
We’ll be back net weekend with another audition review, and with that, we’re more than stoked to see precisely who ends up emerging from the woodwork next.
