‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ season 2: Premiere date speculation for renewed Rachel Bloom series
Going into the first season of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” it was pretty easy to say that this was one of the biggest underdogs of the entire 2015-16 season. It was an hour-long musical comedy on The CW set in West Covina, and featuring a lead in Rachel Bloom who was relatively unfamiliar to most of America. The title of the show also could have falsely led some to believe that the show was mocking its main character of Rebecca Bunch when that’s not really the case.
Now, the season 1 finale is set to air on The CW Monday night, and there are plenty of reasons to be hopeful for the future. For one, the network ordered a second season weeks ago! While the ratings for season 1 weren’t entirely great, the show is largely loved by critics, and it helped Bloom win a Golden Globe earlier this year for the role.
The only question mark going into season 2 is when the show will premiere. While it’s nice to know it’ll be back, that’s no guarantee that it will be back in the fall. Given that the network has renewed every one of its shows this season other than the still-to-air “Containment,” they have a real dilemma when it comes to their schedule. Unless they don’t pick up any new series or they extend their schedule to another night / add more hours to existing nights, they are in a situation here where they may have to give shows shorter seasons or move things around to midseason / summer.
Ultimately, we imagine that we’ll hear about “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and other shows at the upfront presentation in May. Regardless of episode count, we just hope that the series isn’t shuffled somewhere that new viewers will not be able to find it.
