‘The Blacklist’ season 3 spoilers: ‘Banshee’ star to play mysterious villain, Red rival

As of late, we’ve spent a lot of time discussing “The Blacklist” season 3 through the lens of what happened to Liz Keen, and also the status of Megan Boone on the show moving forward. Unfortunately, we don’t think we’re going to get any more information on that until at least Thursday night’s new episode (if not longer).

With that, let’s press pause for a moment and get back to something else that is still important to the show in its own right. According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, Ulrich Thomsen of “Banshee” fame has been cast for an arc at the end of the season as Alexander Kirk, a super-smart energy businessman who has a lengthy history with Red (James Spader), and may know some of the darkest secrets from his past. These two have a rivalry that should play out in exciting / probably violent fashion.

“The Blacklist” at the moment is certainly setting up to have an exciting final few episodes this season, given that we also know that Famke Janssen is going to appear as a powerful woman nicknamed “Scottie” who could end up becoming the Reddington of a spin-off show starring Ryan Eggold as Tom. Also, we know that sooner or later, the producers are going to have to touch further on the Liz mystery. For now, you could easily argue that this is just a smart way to work around Boone’s maternity leave, but time will tell.
