‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5, episode 18 reaction: Show boss on Red – Dorothy reveal

The fifth season of “Once Upon a Time” has long been hyping up a romance between two characters, and as a result of that, the suspicion for a long time was that these characters would be Red / Ruby and Mulan. After all, Melle had already been established as being either bisexual or a lesbian, and there were no other LGBT characters presented in the story.

However, that changed tonight when we learned that Ruby actually had feelings for Dorothy, who she met while working together in Oz, and she ended up saving her life later thanks to true love’s kiss. It was almost straight out of a fairytale when it comes to how it played out, and we’ve already seen a wide range of reaction to it online.

In speaking about the decision to have this particular story play out in the way that it did to Entertainment Weekly, executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis had the following to stay in a joint statement:

“True love’s kiss has been a staple of this show since the beginning … This past Sunday’s episode was just another example of how in a fairy tale, as in life, love is love.”

We’re not sure how much more of these two characters we’ll see on the show following this, but hopefully they do turn up again in the future. It is a new example of inclusion for the show, and Ruby in particular had been set up as a great character even before we got around to this episode.
