‘Quantico’ episode 18 review: Caleb’s return, a betrayal, and a breakup
Through much of Sunday night’s new episode of “Quantico,” what we had a chance to learn first and foremost was that Alex did not exactly have an easy time finding Shelby. She may have realized that she was driving the car by order of the terrorist, but finding out why was no easy task.
With that being said, she did unearth Caleb! He’s still alive, but insists that he hasn’t had much contact with Shelby at all. Unfortunately, he is still struggling to deal with his demons and his addictions, as his mother was more or less keeping him from getting the help he needed.
This was a tough episode for him as a whole, given that in the Quantico timeline his role with Systemics we leaked, and there were more problems as he started to be exposed. In order to preserve his alternate persona, he had to do some pretty violent, terrible things. Speaking of which, let’s hop back to the present again to unveil the big reveal of the night: Caleb’s involved in some capacity. How? We’ll have to wait and see. We’re also concerned that maybe that phone call was to Shelby.
The “breakup” – Well, this was easy to see coming. Alex and Drew are no more, mostly because she still “looks at” Ryan in a certain way. This is why the show really should minimize the relationship aspect at every possible opportunity. It’s hokey and soap opera like, and the writing is smart enough to be above the obvious Ryan / Alex kiss that will probably be coming in a few weeks.
The speech at the end of the episode to Alex was compelling about her breaking the glass ceiling, but for the most part, we didn’t care much for the present story. We’re once again all about the future, and the Caleb reveal has us wanting more. Grade: B.
