Crime TV Heroes: On Sharon Raydor and her ‘Major Crimes’ season 5 future
The fifth season of “Major Crimes” may not premiere on TNT until June, but we’re not going to let that stop us from getting involved in a little more conversation in regards to the show. Specifically, we are speaking here in terms of one of the show’s most-beloved characters in Sharon Raydor, and the journey that we are seeing them on at present to become the best person they can possibly be.
We know that Raydor is a hero to both the cast and the city of Los Angeles, but what makes her that way? What defines her? These are subjects that should make for a focal point in the latest chapter in our Crime TV Heroes series.
Why she’s a hero – Just look at her body of work, which really spans years and two separate shows at this point. Sharon is the sort of woman who gets the job done, but does it in a way that does not make her appear callous or uncaring for those on the other side of the system. She tries to do the right thing in every situation, cares for her fellow officers, and really is someone intent on getting the truth at every turn. While there are some officers on this and other crime shows who at times do have questionable motives, we are rather happy to see that Sharon is not one of them.
What she can learn – One of the big things for Sharon may just be continuing to compartmentalize, and not let every case overtake her in the way that they sometimes do. Sometime it’s okay to let go, and sometimes it is okay to open up a little bit more. One of the things about her relationship with Andy is that it has been rather slow-moving, and it would be okay for both of them (and really the show as a whole) to take another chance and to do so sooner rather than later.
What we’d like to see with her – With the “Hindsight” story, we had quite possibly one of the biggest challenges of her career in tackling a case long thought of as dead. What would happen now if there was a case that was equally layered, but it unfolded in more in the present? We’d like to see another arc at some point down the road that challenges her further professionally, just like in her personal life we would be thrilled to see her and Andy take another leap forward.
