‘Home Fires’ season 2, episode 3 review: Pat – Bob drama; David’s return; the bomb scare
Going into tonight’s new episode of “Home Fires” on ITV, we knew that there was the potential for a few shocking developments. For one, this is really the name of the game for this series, which does put a premium on these sort of things the majority of the time.
We begin first and foremost with the latest update on Pat, the one character we do routinely feel the worst for on this show. She did start a secret relationship with Marek last week, but the problem here (of course) was that she was married to the horrible Bob. The moment someone else did find out, there was immediate worry that something could be done to jeopardize what they had. Bob also seems to have a knack for finding things out, unfortunately…
In speaking of other shocking / depressing news, apparently there was a specific reason Peter was holding back that 20%: he has a child out there, one Frances knew very little about. She has to plot her next move, and this could be difficult.
In the closing minutes, the true crisis hit this small Cheshire village: The presence of a potential bomb that landed close to the town. If someone was to make the wrong move, it could cause it to detonate, causing all sorts of unspeakable harm. Nobody wants to see that sort of thing happen, so the army was called in and this is the sort of thing that does unite almost everyone.
Yet, through the rubble and the sadness of this episode, there was a nice little bit of hope: David’s back! he’s alive! This is a cause for celebration, but it may be temporary given that there could be some other hardship awaiting this village in the near future. This show sometimes paces itself a little oddly, but as a whole, this episode continued the “Home Fires” tradition of solid entertainment. Episode Grade: B+.
