‘Saturday Night Live’ music: Nick Jonas, Tove Lo perform ‘Close’; also, ‘Champagne Problems’

SNL -For this weekend’s edition of “Saturday Night Live,” we had an appearance from none other than Nick Jonas to perform some of his latest material. This is clearly a guy who has evolved very much from his Jonas Brothers days, and this was reflected very well in some of his music tonight.

Specifically, let’s begin here with a talk about “Close,” which was the first single he performed alongside Tove Lo. It’s pretty clear after hearing this why he has evolved more into a modern pop star than a kid in a boy-band. He has tremendous charisma on stage for one, but he also has a catchy hook to the song and a guest who is one of the industry’s up-and-comers at the moment in her own right. We see this earning him a few new fans.

We’ll be back soon with some more details on the second performance of the night. Update: We’re here with a little more on “Champagne Problems,” which was a solid albeit not-as-strong performance. The charisma was still there, but there was such an echo / backing singers on this that it was harder to hear his voice and distinguish it from something on the radio or in his music video. We often prefer things on “SNL” to feel a little more raw.

Here’s one last suggestion we’ll give for you in this article if you are new to Jonas: Check out his recent Reddit AMA, since he was all sorts of amazing in how he answered many questions.
