Ratings: ‘Blue Bloods,’ ‘Shark Tank’ tie as ‘The Amazing Race,’ ‘The Originals’ fall
Friday night is not necessarily a night where you can expect huge ratings, but we do like it when there are at least one or two solid hits. “Shark Tank” is no longer the runaway winner that it was, but at least it and “Blue Bloods” are doing well enough to give us at least something reasonably interesting to discuss here.
The good news – “Blue Bloods” and “Shark Tank” both improved on their most-recent outings, and finished the night with a solid 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic. One thing that is especially impressive about the CBS crime series is that so far this year, it has only declined 3.5% in the demo versus season 5. Given that the majority of shows tend to drop around 10% or more in the demo year-to-year, this is a really impressive feat that is a testament to the show’s diehard fans who continue to watch.
Elsewhere, both “Last Man Standing” (1.1) and “Dr. Ken” (1.0) posted some gains over on ABC, and we feel fairly confident that they’ll both be back for one more outing. The former may be one of the most popular comedies out there proportional to how little people talk about … and probably how much money Tim Allen makes from it.
The bad news – Once again, we remind you that “The Amazing Race,” despite more social-media attention from this season, is not posting better numbers. Friday’s episode dropped down to a 0.9 rating; the good news is that it is already renewed. The same goes for “The Originals,” which tied its own series low with a 0.3 rating. To be fair, we don’t think Friday night is really the best timeslot out there for either show given that many young viewers are out doing other things.
