‘Fear the Walking Dead’ renewed for season 3 by AMC just one week into season 2

Clearly, AMC has a lot of confidence that “Fear the Walking Dead” will continue to strike fear (and joy) into the hearts of its viewers.

Today, the network confirmed that following the show’s season 2 premiere (which scored ratings that were at least close to the end of season 1), they have renewed the companion series for a third season spanning sixteen episodes. This is the show’s longest order to date, and it puts it right on par with the original when it comes to the sheer number of episodes that are airing over the course of a year.

Here is what Charlie Collier, president of AMC, AMC Studios, and also SundanceTV, had to say in a statement:

“What Dave Erickson and Robert Kirkman have invented in ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ is to be applauded. Watching Los Angeles crumble through the eyes of our characters and seeing each make decisions and try to figure out the rules of their new world – it’s fresh, eerie and compelling and we’re all in for the ride,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios. “As Victor Strand observed, ‘The only way to survive a mad world is to embrace the madness.’ We thank the millions of fans for embracing this mad world and look forward to sailing far into the future.”

As for what sort of story could await Travis, Madison, or some of the other characters who exist at present in this world, we’re ultimately a little far away from knowing given that there is so much of this season still to go. For now, all we can say is that season 3 will be premiering at some point in 2017. We’ll have some further news soon.
