‘Elementary’ season 4 finale spoilers: Moriarty intrigue and a new casting
When is Moriarty returning to “Elementary“? We imagine that if there is one question the show’s executive-producers are asked often, this is probably this… though unfortunately, it’s also a very hard question for them to answer. We know that the show would love to use their version of the notorious villain as often as humanly possible, but the problem here is that they cast Natalie Dormer in the role. The actress is super-busy in between “Game of Thrones” and some feature films, so there is only so much time that they can have her. It’s been a very significant stretch of time at present since she’s had a major role in the “Elementary” universe.
Well, some of that could be changing in the season 4 finale … to an extent. Per a new report from TVLine, Tony Curran (“Defiance”) has been cast in the final two episodes as Joshua Vikner, an economics professor who has some sort of interest or connection to the Moriarty character, and in turn could have some interesting discussions with both Sherlock and Morland Holmes.
Even if Dormer does not appear, we do like the idea of getting someone else aboard the show with connections to Moriarty. If nothing else, it does give you a reminder that she’s out there, and we do think that she will be back eventually.
Here’s one particular idea to consider: “Elementary” has been renewed already for a fifth season, and we know that the 100th episode is going to be somewhere in there. What better time to bring back the character than that?
