‘Bones’ season 11 spoilers: Exec on early season 12 a.k.a. final-season plans

Bones -Thursday night marks the return of “Bones” to TV after a rather lengthy layoff, and there’s some great news in that there is still a whole lot of story left to tell this season. Not only that, but in some ways there is still a good bit of story left to tell in the entire series given that there is one more season left after this one. Season 12 may be the end, but there’ll be some time to tie together some old stories and really give the Booth and Brennan characters their due.

What’s great about this final season for now is that it already seems as though the producers are planning ahead for what it should be, and even taking some advice from their own stars. Speaking on this subject to TVInsider, executive producer Michael Peterson had the following message to pass along:

“What we’re really excited about for Season 12, and what we did when we went to Fox and said,’”Hey, we want and really need a 12th season’—and they were so great to give it to us—‘[because] we want to have Bones go out the right way.’

“One of the things David Boreanaz told us at the beginning of the season when [co-showrunner] Jon [Collier] and I took over the show as showrunners is to go back and watch that first season, and look at the magic that happened there; that dynamic between the characters, and grab as much of that feeling as you can. While watching that first season, we kind of saw some arcs that had been started that we never quite finished. When we went in and talked to Fox, we talked to them entirely about character: where we need Booth and Brennan to go to, and we need this whole season to finish off personal arcs that are hinted at in the first season.”

Do we think that the show will end in the best way possible? We’re fairly optimistic that Collier and Peterson will figure something out. There’s really only one way the fans want the show to end and that’s happy, so we cannot imagine they’ll throw any curveballs out there to make anyone feel as though this entire journey with these characters has not been worth it.
