TV Quick Hits: ‘New Girl,’ ‘Man Seeking Woman’ renewed; ‘Broadchurch’ season 3 news
“New Girl” renewed for season 6 – We begin this new edition of TV Quick Hits with great news for fans of the Fox comedy. The show, starring Zooey Deschnael and Jake Johnson, will of course be back for a sixth season. We’re not sure that there was ever really that much doubt here as to whether or not it will be coming back.
In a statement, Fox Entertainment president David Madden had the following to say:
“Every network comedy should aspire to what [New Girl creator] Liz Meriwether is achieving in New Girl, with its bravura dialogue, inventive and witty performances by the talented cast and emotionally engaging storytelling … The series is as creatively strong today as it ever was, we want to congratulate New Girl on reaching its milestone 100th episode, and we can’t wait for the next subversive and hilarious chapter of these characters’ lives.”
“Man Seeking Woman” renewed – Let’s dive into some other great news when it comes to the FXX comedy: Season 3 is a go! Nick Grad, President of Original Programming for FX Networks, had the following to say about the move in a statement:
“Man Seeking Woman had another great season this year and continues to offer one of the smartest and funniest takes on dating and relationships on TV today … We are excited to move forward on a third season of Man Seeking Woman with Simon, Jonathan, Andrew, Ian and Lorne, and thank Jay, Eric and Britt for keeping the show so enjoyable.”
The show has been a little bit of a ratings underdog, but hey, it keeps finding a way to survive. We attribute that to quality more than anything else.
“Broadchurch” season 3 coming soon – Today, ITV confirms that the upcoming season is going to be the show’s last, with Julie Hesmondhalgh, Georgina Campbell, Sarah Parish, Charlie Higson, and Mark Bazeley joining Olivia Colman, David Tennant, and Arthur Darvill. Here is what showrunner Chris Chibnall had to say:
“This is the final chapter of Broadchurch. We have one last story to tell, featuring both familiar faces and new characters. I hope it’s a compelling and emotional farewell to a world and show that means so much to me.”
