‘iZombie’ season 3: Premiere date speculation and more for Rose McIver series
Tonight on The CW, we’re going to see the network close the door on “iZombie” season 2 with a finale like no other. After all, the show is running for two hours! There seem to be two separate purposes for this: Giving fans something that feels a little bit more like an event, and also giving new series “Containment” a chance to air for a few weeks after “The Flash” starting next week when the Grant Gustin series returns.
The good news for “iZombie” fans is that you can be rest assured that the show is not going anywhere. The CW already renewed the Rose McIver series from executive producer Rob Thomas for a third season, though there are not many other details available at this time. For example, the specific episode count has not been confirmed, and nor has the premiere date just yet.
One of the biggest challenges for The CW moving into the 2016-17 season is mostly the sheer amount of content that they have. Seeing some strong ratings for its programming plus some critical acclaim, network head Mark Pedowitz is bringing everything back; when you assume that he will also want to bring on one or two new pilots at the very least, as well, you have to assume that either a couple of shows currently on the schedule will have shorter runs, or they will be moved to different nights or different times of the year.
In the case of “iZombie,” we do think it will probably be on the fall schedule once more given that it has been relatively steady in the ratings throughout season 2. However, we’d be surprised if it continues to air after “The Flash.” We’ve more or less seen the sort of numbers it can get in that spot, and executives may decide to give something else a shot in that particular Tuesday-night timeslot moving forward.
