Ratings: ‘Castle’ continues to help season 9 odds; ‘Supergirl’ stumbles; ‘Dancing with the Stars’ up
The ratings are in once more from Monday night’s TV lineup, and the prevailing wisdom at the moment is that ABC really should consider making a move soon to give “Castle” a little bit more security. After all, the ratings were yet again steady versus the most-recent episode.
The episode “Death Wish” ended up drawing in total a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic; while we certainly understand that this is not a stellar rating by any means, this is the sixth straight week the show has kept the same rating at a time when many other ABC shows have fallen. Not only that, but the 6.54 million viewers who caught the show make for the largest total audience we’ve seen since November.
Want to get some other ratings for Monday? Then here we go…
The good news – “Dancing with the Stars” improved its fortune on Disney night, and the show generated a 2.0 rating as a result of it. Meanwhile, both “Blindspot” (1.4) and “NCIS: Los Angeles” (1.3) were extremely solid versus past outings. (While it appears like “Crazy Ex Girlfriend” and “Jane the Virgin” posted increases to a 0.4 and 0.5, preemptions for baseball mean that this will likely adjust down.)
The bad news – Without “The Flash” on board, “Supergirl” fell almost 30% to a 1.3 rating. Oof. We still think it’ll get renewed for another season, but this is not the sort of way that the show probably wanted to end the season. “Gotham” (1.2) and “Lucifer” (1.1) were also some notable drops, and “The Voice” (2.2) is getting dangerously close now to losing its #1 title on the night to “Dancing with the Stars.”

The only reason the ratings are improving is because the inane separation is over and Castle, Espo, Ryan and Beckett are back to working together again. Granted, with KB as Captain, its not as it was, but thats why ratings arent as they were before either. The only way a S9 should be considered is if both leads sign on. If only one comes back, this years ratings will look spectacular.

Last night episode was really good, that is two in a row for these show runners, thank you. It was good to see the 7 of them, working together again. The Castle story has always been about the two of them (Rick and Kate) finding each other, falling in love and learning to except each other. Kate married to a person who believes in genie’s,flying to mars and a whole lot of childish dreams and learned to work with it. Rick marring kate who is super head strong and no matter what he does he can not change that, so he has learned to support her all the way. Last night I feel we seem both of them change a liitle. Kate asked Rick to use one of his last two wishes to help Ryan wife and there baby, Rick telling her he used both of them for that wish. He told her he did not need any wishes, because he has everything he needs HER. But she ask him again if you could have 1 more wish what would it be.He told her he would like to go back in time to the point they fell in love for the first time and do it all over again, her reply was, good answer. And we no Hawley in last nights episode that is a good thing. I hope we do over exposed Hawley in episode 18, the story is finally making steps forward. I hate to see it going backwards again with ABC trying to sell us Hawley as Kates replacement. We are all hoping for a season 9 with the original 7 on board. I was glad to see Ryan and Jenny adding another baby to the big Castle family, to bad it wasn’t Rick and Kates.
