‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 7 production begins; Troian Bellisario to direct
“Pretty Little Liars” will be premiering on Freeform on Tuesday, June 21, but you don’t have to wait until then to get some news regarding what to expect! The network announced today that production has began on the drama, and they also offered up the following short teaser:
“In this upcoming season, the Liars will band together to unearth answers to the last remaining secrets and take down “Uber A” for good in the most romantic season of PLL yet.”
It’s interesting that they use the word “romantic” here, especially in the same sentence as destroying Uber A. Aren’t these two very different thoughts? Anyhow, one other thing that is interesting about this press release is that it makes no mention of season 7 being the show’s final season, which is something that Lucy Hale and many other cast members have suggested. We cannot imagine having the show without its core cast, so with that we hope that this is the end of the road. There’s no real need to drag this franchise into the ground; if anything, just create a spin-off featuring a couple of characters and tie up all the main story threads here.
Freeform also announced today that Troian Bellisario (who plays Spencer Hastings on the show) will be directing the 15th episode of season 7, which will likely air in early 2017. Typically, the show tends to divide their seasons in summer and winter halves. Here’s a bit of additional trivia: Troian’s fiance Patrick J. Adams has also gotten into the directing game, having helmed a couple of episodes of his own show in USA’s “Suits.”
