‘Quantico’ episode 17 reaction: Show boss on that Shelby – car reveal

As critical as we’ve been on “Quantico” as of late, we will concede that Sunday night’s new installment was a major step forward for the ABC series. Also, it concluded with a surprise that felt legitimately earned, and not in a “let’s throw stuff at the TV and see what happens” sort of way: Shelby is involved in the terrorist plot! We saw her driving the car that Simon got into, and we have to wait and see what that means. What we knew previously in the future timeline was that she had left the FBI, and was looking to go back into her family business.

Here’s the good news: After waiting to see Shelby in the future for a few weeks, executive producer Josh Safran insists we’ll be getting more of her soon. Here’s what he had to say to Entertainment Weekly:

“All I can tell you is that the audience won’t have to go very long before seeing her again and learning a bigger piece of the puzzle. We were very excited about that moment for a very long time. When we came up with the arc for the second half of the season, we laid this out very neatly, and we always knew it was coming. The answers to Shelby’s position will be clear in two weeks.”

At this point, we’re down for almost any extended story featuring a character we’re invested in on this show, and right now we’d say that Alex, Shelby, and Rayna / Nimah are the ones who are the highest on that list. Also, understanding her intentions is a way to distract us from some of the things the show still needs to work on, including the rampant romances that tend to be a little bit of a distraction from everything on the show that we enjoy at the moment.
