‘The Voice UK’ results: Was Jolan, Kevin Simm, or Lydia Lucy the season 5 winner?
While we’re still waiting to figure out who the precise winner of this season of “The Voice UK” is, we do have some of the first updates on the subject … not that they are really inspiring a heck of a lot of excitement in us.
Basically, about eighty minutes into the show the British public chose to eliminate Lydia Lucy and Cody Frost, effectively getting rid of the two more original contestants this season. It’s not that Jolan or Kevin Simm lack excitement or talent; we’re just not sure if they have the pizzazz to really make a splash on the market after the show. What will.i.am said upon Lydia’s exit is probably the most important thing we heard over the entire finale: The goal now should actually be working to make someone a star, and he’s planning to hold a free concert in London next month that will give Lydia a platform to perform.
Here’s a note to future contestants: Pick Will as your mentor. He seems to do more to help his acts than anyone else we’ve seen on this version of the show. It’s similar in ways to what we’ve seen Blake Shelton do in America.
Okay, now let’s get to the main result, which came as a result of a great deal of filler: Kevin is the winner! We’re sure that there will be some out there who grumble that he had some sort of advantage because of Liberty X, but at the same time Jolan had been on the show before this year. Plus, the public voted! Unless you what to call the voters a bunch of sheep, you have no real justification to complain.
Now, let’s say farewell to the series on BBC One, as it is moving to ITV next year. We have no idea what the future holds, but we’re fairly curious to find out. We just hope that in the process of the move we switch around some coaches and make the show a little goofier. There’s a little too much nicey-nicey behavior here, especially when it comes to the pretense that there will be multiple stars who come out of this.
