‘The Walking Dead’ season 6 continues #1 show streak; season 7 coming in October

twdYou can probably file this to a certain extent under “most predictable stories of the year,” but it is nonetheless still very much official: “The Walking Dead” is once again the #1 show on TV now that season 6 is over, and we suspect that it probably was not even that close. Even with declining live+same day ratings, the show easily topped everything else in scripted television in adults 18-49, and also did the same thing when you include DVR data.

This news was announced in a statement today, with AMC head Charlie Collier saying the following:

“We know how rare it is to have the #1 show on television for four years running and to share a season six finale on AMC with more than 18 million fans, to say nothing of the passionate and appreciated conversations that followed. So, as we close this season, first and foremost, a heartfelt ‘thank you’ is on all of our mind … Thank you to everyone who makes The Walking Dead possible, from those working in the Los Angeles-Senoia-New York ‘zombie triangle’ to our fans around the world. We now put down Lucille for a while and leave the ‘at bats’ to baseball until our October return.”

Sure, it probably is a foregone conclusion to many people out there that the upcoming seventh season would start in October, but we are rather thrilled just to have that extra bit of verification. Given the changes with “Fear the Walking Dead” now on the schedule, it was always possible that the network could try to mix something up.
