‘Outlander’ season 2 video: New clip focuses on Sam Heughan’s Jamie

The “Outlander” drought (or Droughtlander, if you prefer) is now over! The acclaimed series is returning to Starz on Saturday night, and some of you who subscribe to the network may have actually had a chance to check out the premiere in advance. (For the record, we’re holding our premiere review until after it airs on its standard time this weekend — it’s a little more consistent to know that this is when the reviews will be posted every week.)

Just to get you all the more excited about the new season, we do have one last mini-trailer on the season focusing primarily on Sam Heughan’s character of Jamie Fraser. He is a man who struggled long before Claire (Caitriona Balfe) arrived to Scotland, and she in many reasons gave him a further reason to fight. They were the source of each other’s strength during some dark times, and they have to be prepared for some more moving forward into this season.

The biggest superficial change for the two is obviously the new setting in France, but many of the political and social movements that come as a result of this could test the relationship in unexpected ways. This will be an emotional, taxing season for the two characters, which is terrible for them but, admittedly, probably good for those of us who want compelling drama. If we’re getting meta about it, we also want great, meaty material to increase the actors’ award-show odds, even if it’s not really about that so much as producing a wonderful story that pleases the fans.
