‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 7, ‘Dead of Summer’ premiere dates confirmed by Freeform

The Liars will be returning to Freeform for one (likely) final batch of episodes, but they will be doing so a little bit later than we’re used to.

Today, the network announced their summer premiere dates, and the big surprise was learning that the seventh season of “Pretty Little Liars” is starting on Tuesday, June 21 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. By more or less a full week, this is the latest that a season has ever premiered in the month.

Granted, there are some reasons for this when it comes to episode count that justify it somewhat. The first five seasons aired at least 22 episodes each, and therefore they had more stories to put on the air in the summer. Season 7, like this past batch, only has 20. Granted, we don’t know why season 6 didn’t air later because of it, but it is what it is. The one thing we do like is that there will be a little bit of a shorter wait between the first and second half of the season; it’s always been a little weird that the midseason hiatus, excluding the occasional holiday special, is longer than the hiatus between one season and the next.

For those wondering some other premiere dates, the network confirmed that “The Fosters” is coming on Monday, June 20 (which we told you about previously), while new series “Dead of Summer” from “Once Upon a Time” creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis will start on Tuesday, June 28 following “Pretty Little Liars.” We’re excited about that one in particular of the network’s new lineup.
