‘Lucifer,’ ‘Rosewood’ season 2 renewals confirmed by Fox
Fox is not making you wait any longer to know the fate of at least two of its freshman series: “Rosewood” and “Lucifer” are each coming back for more. This decision was confirmed in a new statement by the network on Thursday, one where entertainment president David Madden had the following to say:
“We knew we had something special with Lucifer, from the engaging performances of Tom, Lauren and the rest of the charismatic cast, to Len Wiseman’s visually stunning look of the show and the amazing storytelling savvy of the Bruckheimer team,” said David Madden, president of entertainment at Fox. “With Rosewood, creator Todd Harthan has put a fresh, playful spin on the procedural format, infusing it with wit and warmth, while Morris, Jaina and the show’s gifted supporting cast have turned in fantastic performances. We look forward to two stand-out sophomore seasons from both series.”
While neither show has necessarily been a ratings smash for the network, they’ve at least fared better than some other programs on the roster. Also, Fox is likely well aware of their current ratings situation given that “Sleepy Hollow” and “Second Chance” are in danger, and there are many comedies (including “Bordertown,” “Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life,” “The Grinder,” and “Grandfathered”) in serious jeopardy.
“Lucifer” and “Rosewood” both were set up well by a pair of other factors. In the case of the former, we credit some of its success to getting a great lead-in courtesy of “The X-Files” earlier this season; meanwhile, the latter has spent the majority of the season airing on the same night as “Empire,” which turned it into more of an event.
