‘Gilmore Girls’ revival: Melissa McCarthy invited (again) to appear

Even though “Gilmore Girls” may have assembled almost every person out there who was once involved with the show, including super-famous TV people like Vanessa Marano, Jared Padalecki, and Matt Czuchry, they still have one big name floating around out there in the ether: Melissa McCarthy. The former “Mike & Molly” star and creator Amy Sherman-Palladino have certainly spoken a lot about the show in one way or another, but we’re not sure just how much that they have actually spoken to each other about it.

Some of the talk about getting McCarthy back on the show began when the show creator said that she had put an offer out there, something that McCarthy claimed she never received. The actress later said that she did eventually get an invite, but by the time she got it she was too busy to sign on for the show.

Now, Sherman-Palladino is making one more last-ditch effort to have something happen. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in their new cover story, she makes it clear that she is doing everything that she can to get a Sookie cameo onto the show:

“We’ve just put it out into the universe; we’re here until May 10 … I know what the scene is. I’ll pre-light it for her. She can drive up, run in, shoot it, and run out. I can get her in and out in two hours.”

We actually would be just fine if McCarthy quietly accepts the invite, and then it is never actually announced and she just shows up on the show itself. Wouldn’t that make for a good time? We certainly think so.

As for whether or not we think it’ll actually happen, we’re not getting our hopes up for now. Better to be surprised later.
