‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12, episode 17 video: Riggs and Owen almost come to blows (again)

It is becoming a little bit of a common thread on “Grey’s Anatomy” these days: Riggs and Owen having arguments, and airing out their dirty laundry for anyone to hear.

Why do they keep doing this? There’s a certain element of it that does make sense when you consider their history. They obviously have some bad blood they’re trying to work through thanks to Owen’s sister, and it certainly does not help anything when there are some other problems that keep coming up that further jeopardize things. Take, as a prime example here, what you can see in the sneak peek below from Thursday night’s episode.

In this episode, Meredith, Owen, and Riggs are all out on an ambulance ride, waiting to pick up a donor heart, when Owen learns that he had bought Amelia a drink at a bar earlier this season. He explains that he didn’t know she was an addict and she accepted the offer; had he known, he never would’ve made it. This is still not something that Owen clearly wants to here, and Grey has to keep the two of them from coming to blows.

Of course, we understand that Owen is enraged, and at this point, he could even feel almost like Riggs is some little black cloud floating around and destroying several things that he loves. We don’t think that he’s a perfect guy by any means, but he is well-intentioned and wants things to eventually get better with Owen. The problem here is that this ultimately does need to be a two-way street.
