‘The Blacklist’ season 3: Ryan Eggold officially joins spin-off concept
While we do not know for certain as of yet that the proposed spin-off for “The Blacklist” is going to evolve beyond just the idea stage, we can at least now still tell you this: The eagle has landed in terms of getting Ryan Eggold to officially sign on for the idea.
Sources confirm that Eggold, who plays Tom Keen on the NBC show, will join the spin-off series should it come to fruition. The final episodes this season seem to be heavily setting up the idea, with Famke Janssen (“X-Men,” “How to Get Away with Murder”) starring as a criminal mastermind who is in many ways Tom’s version of Raymond Reddington. The show will also feature the Mr. Solomon character, who will be a significant player in the final episodes of this season.
We’ve though ever since writing a Spin-Off Goals article about it earlier this year that Tom would be great for running a solo show. He’s an interesting character with a complicated past, and it has become difficult to use his properly on the flagship show. The biggest problem we have with the idea is that if he leaves “The Blacklist,” that doesn’t really look like the best father in the world. If we’re meant to root for him, it’s rather hard if we also think of him as someone who abandoned his child.
