ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8 spoilers: New details on Stana Katic, Nathan Fillion, and ‘Backstabber’
It’s a common trope that many crime TV fans are at this point intimately familiar with: Someone in the key cast getting arrested / suspected of committing a crime, and the other cast members have to rally to ensure they remain free. Heck, it’s a trope that “Castle” has even explored in the past.
Yet, for the upcoming 18th episode of the season entitled “Backstabber,” we’re going to see it once again on the ABC series … though this time in the form of the Hayley character. The just-released synopsis, per SpoilerTV, offers up a few more details regarding what to expect:
“When Hayley finds herself being implicated in a cyber-terror attack after doing an old friend a favor, Castle and Beckett rush to clear her name.”
Hey, it’s a chance for Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic to share time together onscreen! We’re never going to complain about that, and while we did find the circumstances surrounding Hayley’s arrival on the show entirely convenient, we do like the character and the sense of fun that she can bring to certain stories.
This episode should help to bring us into what is more or less the final act of the season, and who knows? It’s possible that Hayley could be a key cog in helping to ensure that the LokSat story is completely resolved. We know that Castle and Beckett have fought to keep this a secret for as long as they possibly could, but let’s be real here for a second: This could be a case that at this point, just needs all hands on deck.

Against my better judgement, watched the Canadian feed. If Hayley is who they have tapped to replace Kate its laughable – although they’re trying really hard. They are also trying hard to lay the groundwork for some big connection between her and Castle. Good luck. He certainly seems to care more about her these days than his wife though. Kate is great for a roll in the hay, but thats it. Hawley is doing his best to ruin a once great lovestory – and for the first time all season, he is succeeding at something.

I think the show runners have been sort of tinkering all season long with the likely possibility that Stana Katic will not return after this season, to see if there is any way this show could survive if she walks? I say no, especially with Paul Lee now gone as ABC’s Programming Chief, as this show was a personal favorite of his and one that he was prepared to either continue without Beckett or spinoff into something different altogether if Nathan Fillion also decided not to return, which is still very possible as well. I think it ends in May if either of the leads say no mas. If i were in ABC’s and the show runners’ shoes, I would look to strike a deal with both leads to return for an abbreviated final 9th season, ending before Christmas, and announcing it as same well in advance, so that all fans could come to terms with it, and then use the final 10-12 episodes to tie up all loose ends and give this great show the proper send off it deserves.

Keeping with the season 8 theme, these Showrunners have given us 2 Castle,1 Beckett, 1 Espo and 1 Hayley episode. Anything to keep Caskett off the screen. I believe that Hayley is involved with Loksat and will use the episode to prolong this stupid story arc. These Showrunners need to go away, don’t be mad, just go away!

Hayley being involved with LokSat makes no sense at all.

Going back to last summer (toks) Hayley was added to play the role of the wedge, split between Rick and Kate. That did change a little, but with Hawley not be able to get away from going in that direction, and his not caring about how many fans left, here we are. This showed up big time in episode 14, when said told Rick she know what happened to him when he disappeared in 6/23. This whole BS separation this season could of stopped if she would have told Rick and Kate about Ricks disappearance in episode 3. She has always played the role of the Kate want a be, so she was hoping that Kate would go away and she could move in, so that is why Hawley had this season written the way it is. With Stana not wanting to sign a new contract for a season 9, that is why Hawley is pushing real hard for a spin off. The show will never be the same without both Fillion and Katic in it PEROID. If either one of the two get killed off or both of them do, that would make the worst ending to a TV series ever. And the only one we will have to thank for that is the JV show runner Hawley.

Hayley centric episode? I’ll skip and catch any Caskett scenes on U Tube. Havent TPTB gotten the message yet that the majority of fans dont care for her? Aww yes, they dont care how fans feel and keep plowing ahead with their agenda

Vikki, I agree but TPTB want a spin-off so they need her for the story .I think this season will be the last for Stana and Nathan.
