ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5 spoilers: Could art imitate life for Hollis Doyle?
If it was a subject of conversation a few years ago, we’re pretty sure that nobody would have said that our Presidential election would be what it is right now. We’re not getting political here, but did anyone expect Donald Trump to run for the highest office, let alone being the Republican frontrunner? It’s a surprising situation, and that is something that “Scandal” has tried to emulate through the character of Hollis Doyle. He is the show’s extremely-wealthy billionaire, and we’ve gotten quite the chance to see precisely how he would handle being a part of the race.
However, just because Trump is leading the polls does not necessarily mean that the ABC series is planning to do anything similar with this character at the moment. In commenting on this matter further to Entertainment Weekly, Kerry Washington had the following message to pass along:
“I don’t know that our show is going to base who wins off of what’s happening in the real world … What Shonda [Rhimes] does is she takes the real world as it is and writes her version of how it ends up.”
At the moment, we would say more than likely that the top contender to really push forward is Mellie Grant, mostly because she is the person we’re most invested in, and Olivia Pope often does have her way. As for Susan Ross, we suppose that we cannot fully write her off, either, and there is something interesting that could come from one of these characters being the other’s running mate. They just have to be careful, since Hollis could be the sort of underground character who really takes over after rising to the surface.
