NBC announces ‘The Night Shift’ season 3, ‘Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge’ premiere dates

It’s nice to see that NBC has moved “The Night Shift” back to where it really belongs: Summer. Two years ago, the show found a nice place for itself in this lineup, but the network tried out some other things for season 2 that weren’t quite as successful.

Now, we know that season 3 of the San Antonio set drama will be starting on Wednesday, June 1 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern, where it will more than likely have a lot less competition. Hopefully, that’ll be reflected in the ratings.

Meanwhile, the network also confirmed that their new reality series “Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge,” which comes from the producers of “American Ninja Warrior,” will follow up the competition series for two weeks starting on Monday, June 13. Following that, the show will shift to Thursdays at 9:00 starting on June 23. We don’t really get why the show needs to move away from what is already NBC’s biggest summer reality hit aside from maybe “America’s Got Talent,” since the two could be some sort of powerhouse there.

Here’s the official logline for “Spartan,” for those curious as to if they should check it out:

“Inspired by Spartan Race — the creators of the world’s most demanding obstacle course races — “Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge” raises the bar on team competitions. Groups of friends, families, co-workers and more must work together as they race across specially designed Spartan courses engineered to test their determination, endurance and will. Teams of five will compete on one the most demanding courses ever devised and will have to push through the pain to win $250,000.”
