‘American Idol 15’ results: Was Dalton Rapattoni or MacKenzie Bourg eliminated?

Tonight, “American Idol” had a chance to deliver either a shocking elimination or a rather predictable one as the final four eventually became the final three … and it actually proved to be much more of the latter than the former.

Going into this episode, we really expected Dalton Rapattoni to be the person who was sent home in third place for a wide array of reasons. One of the biggest ones was simply that he was in danger this past week, and because nobody else really had been in danger before now. It is with that in mind that we were more than a little bit stunned to learned that it was MacKenzie Bourg who was actually eliminated instead.

We are definitely going to miss MacKenzie this season, but we’ve felt for quite a while now that this was a two-person race between Trent Harmon and La’Porsha Renae … and it’s hard to know which one is really running away with this. There have been times where we went more for the latter as the frontrunner, but it felt like that momentum changed somewhat following everything that we saw last week. That is where Trent perhaps came into his own more so than he has to date, and we started to think as though he was the person capable of taking the title.

In the end, this is a show about momentum, so who knows? It’s certainly possible that Dalton could find some more momentum and end up himself getting into the top 2.
