‘Game of Thrones’ season 6: Carice van Houten on Melisandre’s confusion

Melisandre -

The sixth season of “Game of Thrones” is going to be premiering in a little over three weeks’ time, and we know that Melisandre has been a key subject of conversation pretty much since the fifth season ended. Why is that? Much of it could have something to do with the suspicion that she could bring Jon Snow back to life.

However, there is another extremely-important issue at the heart of the Red Woman’s story moving forward, and much of that traces back to questions as to whether or not she really has much faith to continue her journey. Remember here that this is someone who previously was compelled to believe that Stannis was the one true king, and she was wrong. She also thought that the sacrifice of Shireen was going to be the catalyst in the war. Instead, it was the human tragedy that sent many of Stannis’ soldiers away.

In setting up this particular issue in a new interview (per the Express), Carice van Houten described some of her character’s thoughts with the following:

“What the f— is happening? She’s been on this mission and all of a sudden it makes no sense and her tricks didn’t work – the sacrifice of this girl didn’t work. But I think it’s slowly getting to her that she might have been slightly wrong about things, so that’s where we leave her in season five and that’s definitely where she starts off in season six.”

As for where she ends up, who knows? Maybe she will find another person and reason to have faith.
