‘Faking It’ season 3, episode 3 review: Did Amy and Karma bond over their anger?
While there were some funny moments here and there on the first two episodes of “Faking It” season 3, it feels to us almost like Tuesday night’s new episode is when the MTV show remembered that more so than a relationship character study, this is actually a comedy and the goal here is, ultimately, to laugh.
With that, we’re pleased that there were so many funny / ridiculously over-the-top moments placed over the course of this half-hour. Take, for starters, a silly Rebecca Black inspired video that Amy released that would embarrass Karma as a way to get revenge on her over the whole Zita kiss … and then Karma’s retaliation of releasing Amy’s diary pages. While there were some juicy details in there, we like the fact that what generated the biggest reaction was actually the part about Lauren and Shane having more in common than they realized, to the point that they actually could be friends if they wanted to.
Yet, none of this compared to the laugh we got out of seeing Oliver as the broker for Amy’s missing diary pages.
In the end, though, fans of the relationship stuff did get some of what they wanted in this episode, as well. Karma’s relationship ended after her surfer-dude boyfriend cheated, and Amy admitted that she may not be completely over her. Meanwhile, Karma admitted that there may be a part of her that likes having Amy in love with her. They worked out some issues at detention, and while they’re not necessarily friends again, we do think that this is the beginnings of at least something. It was also the end of the season’s best episode so far. Grade: A-.
