MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 5, episode 15 review: Did Jenna and Luke reconnect?
So far this season, “Awkward” has definitely been a little bit of a mixed bag creatively. However, that has changed to a certain degree here in the second half of this season, mostly because of the time jump and giving these characters some room to breathe.
For example, we legitimately believed in this episode, perhaps for the first time ever, that there was not anything between Jenna and Matty beyond just a passing glance. She had went to Sadie’s birthday bash mostly to win her old best friend back. However, that didn’t really happen and instead, what we ended up seeing was her get closer to Luke. Despite trying to act distant at first she realized she liked him, and then realized further during this night out at the club that they still had a ton in common.
After that night, the two finally did make it clear that they had an interest in one another, and it does seem like their relationship is a go again … at least for the time being.
As for Matty, his new relationship was a disaster since his girlfriend was more or less a child in an adult’s body, pulling pranks left and right to the point where he ended up getting into trouble and getting tossed from the party. It’s certainly looking like he may be regretting some of his choices now. Elsewhere, we saw in a particularly funny series of events Tamara end up crashing and burning to have some guys pay for the party, and Jake had a less-than-welcome date. Grade: B.
