‘Game of Thrones’ season 6 spoilers: Sophie Turner hints at stronger Sansa
So far, “Game of Thrones” has seen many characters have some rather uneven story arcs in one way or another, and there is really no better example of that at the moment than Sansa Stark. Just look at what she’s gone through so far. She’s been perceived as week, abused by Joffrey, but shown some of her strength in getting away from that situation. However, she found herself once again tormented and raped by Ramsay Bolton, but thanks to Theon Greyjoy at the end of the season, she was able to make her escape.
Sansa has emerged as one of the show’s most-popular characters, and it came as a result of a slow evolution. Given everything that she’s been through, the sentiment is pretty clear that people do want to see her succeed and take those who have wronged her down a notch. In a sense, she has a list of her own like Arya … she’s just handling it in a different way.
In teasing this upcoming season per Entertainment Weekly, Sophie Turner opts to keep her tease relatively simple:
“This is the season I’m most excited for. Sansa’s coming into her own and standing up for herself.”
We definitely hope that is true, especially since the show really needs a couple more strong female characters to tip the scales after what was a really depressing season 5 for women. You had Sansa raped, Arya lose her vision, Dany find herself surrounded by Dothraki, and Myrcella Lannister killed. This is without even mentioned the terrible things that happened to Shireen. Unless you’re Brienne and you are killing Stannis, this was a sad season to behold.
