Ratings: ‘Supergirl’ surges thanks to ‘The Flash’; ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,’ ‘Jane the Virgin’ recover
For many primetime network series, “The Flash” is simply the gift that keeps on giving. Whenever we see “Arrow” cross over with the show, we tend to get some sort of significant boost in the ratings. Now, “Supergirl” is reaping the same exact reward.
The good news – For its latest new episode on Monday night (read our full review of the crossover here), the CBS series ended up posting a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic, giving the show its best number since early February and providing an improvement of over 30% from its most-recent episode. This enabled the show to be the #1 scripted entity on broadcast TV Monday, and we figure these sort of ratings will help to ensure that the show is given a second season in the end.
For the first time in a while, Monday brought smiles to fans of more than one show, given that “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (0.3) and “Jane the Virgin” (0.4) each recovered from some ratings disasters last week. It’s not like it mattered too much given that both shows were already renewed, but sometimes you do have to play the long game here and think about the future.
Also, “Blindspot” (1.6) and “Scorpion” (1.6) each recovered from their previous lows.
The bad news – “Dancing with the Stars” (1.7) dropped almost 10% from its premiere, while “NCIS: Los Angeles” (1.2) fell and failed to capitalize on the improvements elsewhere. Still, having only a couple of significant declines looks really great in comparison to some of what we’ve been writing about lately.
In the middle – “Gotham” (1.3) was pretty steady versus last week; it’s a pretty ho-hum number, but it deserves at least some credit given the super-powered competition.
