NBC’s ‘The Voice’ video: Shalyah Fearing performs ‘A Broken Wing’
The Knockout Rounds begin on “The Voice” Monday night, and in preparation for that, why not check out right now a knockout of a performance?
In the video below, the youngest contestant in the competition in Shalyah Fearing performs the country hit “A Broken Wing” with her own style and soul behind it. It’s very good, and it really doesn’t matter how old she is when you look at it objectively. Its one weakness may be the result of her age: You don’t get entirely the sort of tenderness and vulnerability that you would get from someone singing it who has maybe had a little more life experience.
Now that we’ve said that, it’s almost impossible to think that Fearing is eliminated before the live shows. Maybe she ends up getting stolen, or maybe she advances with Pharrell on his team. Either way, it’s gotta happen. She’s got a ton of potential that can improve with the right coaching, and if she continues to work hard in the months that follow the show, she could have a really steady career in this industry. We’ve seen time and time again that it is the amount of work you really put in after the fact that really matters more than anything else; Cassadee Pope and Melanie Martinez are two of the more successful alumni, and they’ve really gotten where they are right now thanks to working hard.
We’ll be back tonight with a full review of all of the latest performances. Stay tuned!
