‘Quantico’ spoilers: ‘Gossip Girl’ alum Kelly Rutherford to play Shelby’s mom

In the wake of a shocker at the end of Sunday night’s new episode of “Quantico,” we’re now pleased to also give you the latest bit of casting news: We’re going to be meeting Shelby’s mother on the show for the first time!

We first heard on this past episode (read the full review over here) that her parents are actually still alive and have been in hiding ever since the events of September 11. Now, we also know to go along with this that Kelly Rutherford of “Gossip Girl” fame is going to be playing the aforementioned mother. Meanwhile, Kevin Kilner will be cast as the character’s father.

It really isn’t too enormous of a surprise at all to learn that Rutherford is officially joining the show, given that Josh Safran (the “Quantico” showrunner) was a huge player in the success of “Gossip Girl” for so many years on The CW. Probably the bigger surprise here is merely that we haven’t seen even more “Gossip Girl” alum come aboard the show just yet. Then again, he may have wanted to differentiate this show in the early going from the one that he was previously known for, and over time he may add more and more names in order to appeal to some of those fans. After all, “Quantico” has already been renewed for a second season, and as a result of that we’re going to likely get to see a wide array of new characters.

You’ll first start to see Rutherford on “Quantico” over the coming weeks; let’s hope that she adds a little bit of drama to what is definitely already a super-dramatic show.
