‘Outlander’ season 2 video: Cast, crew discuss new world of France

Outlander -

The second season of “Outlander” is just two weeks away! Can you believe that the wait is almost over? The show has certainly taken its time to get to this point, but in a matter of a few short days, you’re going to get an opportunity to see precisely how this show adjusts to a very different setting in France.

In the sneak peek below, you can see stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, plus many of the crew members from the production side, discuss the challenges that went into making 18th-century France an immersive environment for our heroes. This is a completely different world than anything that you have seen to date on this show, and this required many changes from Scotland, whether it be the manner of speaking, the politics, and of course the dress code. Balfe jokes that while it was fun to get to dress up in these lavish costumes, they also made it rather difficult to sit down while wearing them. (We can only imagine how hard that had to be for people in that time to constantly wear them.)

As for why the show chose to shoot many of the outdoor France scenes in Prague, executive producer Ronald D. Moore makes it fairly clear that this was a way to actually drive for better authenticity, since the streets of Paris these days don’t look too much like they did many centuries ago. For many of the interior scenes, the show was able to use its already-established soundstages in Scotland.
