‘Madam Secretary’ season 2, episode 18 preview: A strange request for Elizabeth and more

MadamThere are several things that we have come to learn over time regarding “Madam Secretary” on CBS, but one of the biggest ones is simply the mere fact that while Elizabeth McCord may have power as Secretary of State, she does still have to deal rather often with people who are trying to tell her precisely what she should do.

Ultimately, this is in part what we see from the sneak peek below, where you’ve got a chance to see Tea Leoni’s character face a little bit of pressure on the subject of a doomsday clock, something that she suggested potentially in an interview with Jane Pauley during the episode. Given that almost every issue matters with voters, this is something that she is told to do some work on in a way that President Dalton would never ask for.

Ultimately, this is the way in which the political world goes sometimes: If the President doesn’t want to ask you to do something directly that may not be the most wonderful thing in the world to do, there are luckily still many people around who can put the order in a very different way.

There is one other important note to report on in the event that you have not heard already: The show has been renewed for a third season! This was a part of the batch of shows that CBS decided to order more of in a recent announcement, and it helps to ensure that we will be seeing more of Elizabeth in Washington for some time to come. Given how the ratings have been remarkably consistent through two seasons, we really cannot say that we are too surprised.
