NBC’s ‘The Voice’: Could Pharrell Williams return for season 12 and beyond?
On Friday, there was some rather-surprising news that came out about the upcoming 11th season of “The Voice“: For the first time, we were going to see two female coaches on the panel! Not only that, but these coaches were Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys.
At the moment, reaction on the internet to the hires is clearly mixed, mostly because of the fact that Miley is as an artist extremely polarizing. Some find her antics amusing or at least recognize her talent, while others have been annoyed by some of them. Family audiences may end up steering clear, not realizing that the Miley they see on this show is different from the one in music videos. We’re personally fine with her hire, mostly because we think that Cyrus is much savvier and smarter than most tend to believe, and she does have a lot of knowledge to impart about the industry.
For the record, this also does not mean that we’re looking at the end of Pharrell Williams’ time on the show. Per Deadline, he may still return for a future season after spending the past four on the panel, even winning one with Sawyer Fredericks. He and Usher are to date the only coaches who have won this show other than Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.
In a statement that was released following our publication of the original story last night, NBC alternative programming head Paul Telegdy had the following to say regarding the new hires:
“The musical expertise and energy these two incredibly talented women will bring to the show is remarkable … We’re thrilled that they’ll be joining Adam and Blake in what we know will be a magical 11th season.”
We’ll have more on the next season in due time, so stay tuned! For now, head over here to get some other news worth singing about, sent right to you via our official CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: NBC.)
