‘American Idol 15’ top 5 spoilers: What Dalton Rapattoni, Sonika Vaid, others are singing

American Idol -There are two different categories for Thursday night’s “American Idol” live show, and each one of them is appealing in their own way: Songs of Sia, and also classic rock. The first theme was interesting to us given that we wondered if this was meant to imply songs written by Sia as opposed to ones that she just performed. Based on the list that we have below, though, it seems to lean more towards the latter.

The choices come courtesy of TVLine; meanwhile, we are generating our own thoughts.

Sia performances

La’Porsha Renae — “Elastic Heart.” Probably our second-favorite song from the list. She should be able to get a lot of emotion out of this.

MacKenzie Bourg — “Titanium.” He’s really going to have to find a new take on this song, since it’s extremely overdone on singing shows.

Trent Harmon — “Chandelier.” Easily the best Sia song. However, he’s sitting in the shadow right now of the pure mastery that Jordan Smith did on “The Voice” this past fall.

Dalton Rapattoni — “Bird Set Free.” We’ve heard this song, but the melody here is probably the weakest of the choices. This’ll be an uphill battle.

Sonika Vaid — “Loved Me Back to Life.” We hope it’s a little grittier than the last few things that she has done.

Classic Rock Songs

La’Porsha Renae — Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive.” Killer choice. She’ll really rock this.

MacKenzie Bourg — Cheap Trick’s “I Want You to Want Me.” We wish he had chosen something a little less hokey here, since there’s not too much that can be done vocally.

Trent Harmon — Z.Z. Top’s “Sharp Dressed Man.” Like MacKenzie’s choice, there is a lot of work that will need to be done here to make this sound like something other than karaoke. Good luck.

Dalton Rapattoni — The Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows.” This is a song that is easily-adapted, and it could be the song that really helps Dalton make it into the top 4.

Sonika Vaid — Patti Smith Group’s “Because the Night.” Probably the weakest choice of the bunch, mostly because we’re not sure how many viewers outside of the era will know it.
