‘American Idol 15’ top 5 rankings: Where Trent Harmon, La’Porsha Renae, MacKenzie Bourg stand

American Idol -The finale of “American Idol” is very much on the other side of the horizon, and there are just five people left to try to reclaim the title of champion for themselves. They’re all talented, but they’re also very different and appeal to separate crowds.

So who is in the best place at this very moment? We’re back once again to try to figure that out in the latest edition of our show rankings.

5. Sonika Vaid (last week: 6) – When she’s got the right song and she’s hitting the right notes, there’s almost no one better than her vocally. The problem is that she’s chosen a lot of hokey ballads this season, and two appearances in the bottom suggest that her days are numbered.

4. Dalton Rapattoni (4) – He may be the best out of any of the remaining performers to see live, since we guarantee that he’d put on a show and give you something different every time. Unfortunately, his performances in terms of vocals have been wildly inconsistent as of late.

3. MacKenzie Bourg (3) – MacKenzie’s advantage is that he is probably the best pure artist of the top 5, and is the person we could see in turn having a single charting high on the radio someday. Unfortunately, the flip side of that is that with only a couple of exceptions (Phillip Phillips, Nick Fradiani), the majority of the show’s winners have voices that can do almost anything.

2. Trent Harmon (2) – He’s coming off of a great week, and we think that he’s got something this season that nobody else really has: That sort of down-home charm that has propelled people like Kris Allen and Scotty McCreery to victories. He’s super-humble and likable, and there’s no denying the talent.

1. La’Porsha Renae (1) – There’s one obvious thing that hurts La’Porsha: There’s only been one female winner since season 6. However, every other thing is going her way right now. She’s the best singer by a mile, she emotes like nobody’s business, and she has a magnetic personality and oodles of praise from the judges. Our only concern is that she’s such a frontrunner that people forget to vote.
