Hulu snags streaming rights to ‘Blindspot,’ ‘Lucifer,’ will have entire ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ rivalry
We’re always super-fascinated about streaming rights for broadcast shows, mostly because we’re always desperate to get an answer to one long-simmering question: Do these sort of things actually help shows stay on the air? You’ve got “Breaking Bad” as the clearest example over at Netflix, which is why we have always said that this is the place you want to end up in the event you want the most attention.
Yet, Amazon and Hulu are rising fast, and have both stepped up their game a little bit when it comes to the shows that they are adding to their roster. In particular, Hulu today has made a big push by acquiring the exclusive streaming rights to “Blindspot” on NBC as well as “Lucifer” over on Fox.
While we’re not sure about the latter’s long-term viability just yet, “Blindspot” is a key acquisition. It’s one of the breakout hits of the season, and the appeal of being a Hulu subscriber with this show is that you can watch recent episodes much faster than you would over at a Netflix or an Amazon. Once season one ends, subscribers of either of their paid plans will be able to watch the entire first season.
This new deal is also going to give Hulu full rights to “Rizzoli & Isles” (per The Hollywood Reporter), which will be great for those of you later this spring who want to check out the entirety of the earlier seasons before we get around to the end of the road. The final season premieres this summer on TNT.
