‘Criminal Minds’ season 11, episode 18 review: Derek Morgan’s decisions, pain, and hope

Criminal Minds Derek Morgan

There may not be an episode of “Criminal Minds” that was more anticipated than the one Wednesday night entitled “A Beautiful Disaster.” Just think about what was promised going into this: A story that would determine whether or not the character of Derek Morgan lived or died after chasing down a killer.

At the very beginning of the episode, we knew for certain that it was Savannah who had been shot, and her and her unborn child’s lives were on the line. From here, the BAU pressured him to have him step away from the case, knowing that he was too close to it for him to see clearly. He ignored them, and this led to him getting himself into a position where he was nearly killed by a man seeking out revenge. The standoff was severe, and it took some quick thinking on Morgan’s part in order to ensure that he made it out of there alive.

In the end, he was able to make it back in enough time to see Savannah welcome a baby boy … and Morgan decided that the best thing that he could do is depart the team, and go off to be a father. We have to say that if there was ever a reason for Shemar Moore to be written out, this was it. It was a perfect way to say goodbye to him since he has a chance to go off and have a happy life with someone he really cares about.

The final minutes of this episode were emotional, meaningful, and everything in between as Morgan said his goodbyes. His final speech to Garcia just about killed us. Grade: A.
