‘Game of Thrones’ season 6 will feature biggest battle yet
That’s right: We’re back with another edition in our series of “Game of Thrones” superlative articles. Pretty much in all of them, we’re hearing something about how the upcoming sixth season is the biggest and boldest one to date. Sometimes, these sort of stories make us want to groan — but at least this time around we’ve got a little bit of context.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, writer / producer Bryan Cogman did his part to describe a battle sequence in the upcoming season that may be the most ambitious thing that the show has put out there to date:
“It’s definitely the biggest [action sequence yet] … We’ve always wanted to get to a place – story-wise and budget-wise and time-wise and resource-wise – where we would be able to do a proper battle, with one army on one side, one army on another side.”
As for who these two armies are going to be, that’s something that you are going to have to wait until the show airs to see. That’s one of the great things about this show: There are so many armies at this point that hearing there is some sort of big battle coming up does not necessarily give away who is going to be involved. There’s still a little bit of a gray area here, and the one thing that we can say with certainty is that there’ll probably be some death. When was the last time there was a battle scene on a show where there wasn’t?
Season 6 will premiere on HBO come Sunday, April 24 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time.
