‘Game of Thrones’ season 6 strongest season yet, say bosses

We’re sure that the title for this particular article will illicit many a groan from people out there, given that this is the sort of thing that people always tend to say before new episodes of their show come out on the air. Yet, something feels different with “Game of Thrones” this season. HBO has been more tight-lipped than ever before, and they’re also keeping anyone from getting screeners in advance, feeling as though this is going to be a great way to ensure that the maximum amount of people are surprised at the same exact time.

In talking about some of the hype to Entertainment Weekly, co-creator David Benioff makes it clear that he thinks that season 6 is indeed the best, and this is not just something that he is saying to drum up support for a show that really doesn’t even need it at this point:

“The whole season … Dan and I talk about this a lot. This is not us trying to hype it. Usually there’s an episode or two we’re kind of nervous about, that didn’t turn out as well as we hoped. This season there is not a weak episode. We had great directors who knew what they were doing, paired with excellent [directors of photography]. We thought at the script stage it might be our strongest season. Then the episodes came in better than we hoped. We’re always reluctant to say it’s ‘the best season yet’ because so much of that is in the eyes of the beholder. And Dan and I are so close to it that it’s impossible to be unbiased. But that’s my sense – watching them all together now, this is the best one we’ve done. It’s also the one I’m proudest of, because it was the hardest.”

We do know that much of the reason for the hype right now is strictly because the show is getting bigger and bolder than ever before. Some of the sets are more ambitious, and with matters in Westeros starting to come to a head, you have to assume that there will be more battles.
