‘American Horror Story’ season 6 idea not confirmed yet; Matt Bomer, Kathy Bates, more invited to take part

Typically when we get around to PaleyFest, we get a chance to hear about an idea that is locked in for the next season of “American Horror Story” … with the operating word here being “typically.” Apparently, there are also plenty of occasions where this pattern can be broken.

While at the event at the Paley Center in Los Angeles, executive producer Ryan Murphy made it clear that there are two different ideas at the moment that the show is playing with, but (per TVLine) both will involve children in some way:

“The interesting thing about this season is we’ve been working on two ideas at once, which we’ve never done. So I don’t want to say what it maybe is…. Both things that we’re writing right now – we haven’t declared a winner – will have a different form, so we’re excited about that. We’ll talk about it soon, but we haven’t landed on it yet … [Children will play a key part.] If you look at horror tropes, the innocence of children, that sort of wide-eyed entryway into some world is always very dramatic and satisfying.”

Murphy also said that the entirety of the key players from “American Horror Story: Hotel” have been invited back, whether it be Matt Bomer, Kathy Bates, Cheyenne Jackson, or others. With that said, Lady Gaga is the only person officially confirmed, though Angela Bassett has also strongly hinted that she will also return. We’re in a conflicted position about this given that we like the majority of the show’s cast, but feel at the same time that the series could benefit from a little bit of trimming to focus on the key players.
