‘Gilmore Girls’ revival: Melissa McCarthy explains absence, says she will watch

The upcoming revival of “Gilmore Girls” was able to get everyone from Milo Ventimiglia to Jared Padalecki back for at least one of their upcoming four episodes, but there is one name who apparently was a little too elusive in Melissa McCarthy. Recently, there were comments from show creator Amy Sherman-Palladino that they had tried to get the “Mike & Molly” mega-star to return as Sookie to the series, but McCarthy later refuted and said that she hadn’t been contacted for a part. There was clearly some sort of miscommunication along the way, which is rather a shame given that this could have been a great opportunity for both parties.

McCarthy has now confirmed to E! News that she has now been asked to be a part of the revival for Netflix, but unfortunately, it came a little too late for her to be able to do it:

“I think they thought I was busy, and then by the time it did come up, then I actually was … I’m actually thrilled that it’s happening. I loved that show, and I think the fans for that show are super loyal and great, and I will watch every single one of them.”

We suppose that it’s also possible down the road that more of show comes to fruition and Melissa could appear then, but we’re now counting on that. Since these four episodes (which are really more akin to mini-movies) are meant to tie together some loose ends from the show’s final seasons, there may not be a need to make more beyond that. Time will tell.
