‘Game of Thrones’ season 6: How Liam Cunningham caused accidental chaos
Apparently, there is only one way in which to convince people that your character is still alive on “Game of Thrones“: You keep the same exact facial hair for the entirety of the time the show is around. Apparently, the rest of the time people will just consider you a goner.
For one such example of this, all you have to do is see what Liam Cunningham told Entertainment Weekly while promoting the DVD release of the fifth season about suspicions over the fate of his character of Davos:
“When the season ends, the first thing I do is shave the beard off … I was around a friend of mine’s house and her sister came in, and when she opened the door she went, ‘Oh my God, you’re dead! You’re dead, you’re dead!’ And I went, ‘What do you mean I’m dead? I’m not dead!’ She went, ‘You have no beard! You took the beard off, you must be dead! Oh God! I’m telling all my friends you’re dead.’ I went, ‘I just shaved the beard off, I just finished.’ She wouldn’t believe me. There was no amount of convincing this girl that I was possibly still alive. Because I didn’t have the beard, that was her clue that I was dead.”
We do hope that we don’t lose Davos anytime soon, mostly because we do find him such a magnetic and interesting character. Why would we want to lose someone like him? His story also is in such an interesting / enigmatic place now given that Stannis seemingly is going, and the same tragically goes for Shireen, the young lady who taught him to read and improved his lot in life.
